Wet Wading Essentials

Wet Wading Essentials

There is truly nothing worse than being stuck in a hot, sweaty pair of waders on a summer day. You step out of the river convinced you’ve sprung a leak—only to realize it’s just sweat. If you find yourself in that situation, it’s time to start thinking about wet wading. We have put together a guide for you to help decipher the world of wet wading gear.

Wading Socks

Once it’s too hot for waders, we like to leave them at home and switch over to neoprene wet wading socks. They’re simple, comfortable, and make a big difference when paired with the right boots.

When choosing a pair, we recommend going with socks that include a gravel guard. Being able to fold that guard down over your boots helps keep sand and debris out—something you’ll appreciate after a full day on the water. We carry great options from Korkers, Patagonia, and Simms that all get the job done.

Wading Pants

Even in the middle of summer, keeping your legs covered is a smart move. It protects you from sun exposure, brush, bugs, and whatever else you run into along the bank.

There are a few different ways to approach wading pants. The traditional route is a true wading pant—built from the same material as your waders but cut at the waist. These do a great job keeping your lower half dry and protected, but they’re not ideal if you plan on getting into deeper water.

The more modern—and more popular—option is lightweight wet wading pants. They’re breathable, comfortable, and built to move. Here are a few of our favorites:

Skwala Sol Wading Pant

When your fishing days demand versatility, the Skwala Sol Wading Pants are built to keep up without compromise. They wear like a premium hiking pant but deliver the technical performance fly anglers need.

Built with Primeflex™ and Dot Air™ microporous fabric, they offer exceptional breathability while maintaining durability for everyday use. The articulated leg seams allow for unrestricted movement whether you’re hiking in, climbing over obstacles, or stepping through current.

With 40+ UPF sun protection and quick-drying performance, they’re ideal for warm-weather fishing. You stay cool, protected, and by the time you’re back to the truck, they’re nearly dry.

Skwala Backeddy Fishing Pant

The Backeddy Fishing Pant is built for anglers who want one pant that can truly do it all. It combines durability, comfort, and versatility into a piece you can rely on day in and day out.

The abrasion-resistant, stretch-woven fabric moves with you while staying breathable and tough enough for everyday use. It sheds water instead of absorbing it, keeping you light and comfortable in changing conditions.

What really stands out is the feel—it’s soft, smooth, and comfortable enough to wear all day, whether on its own or layered under waders.

Patagonia Sandy Cay Pants

The Sandy Cay Pants are a lightweight, do-it-all option built for warm-weather fishing and travel. Made from 100% recycled materials, they balance sustainability with performance.

The stretchy fabric is designed for athletic movement, whether you’re wading or covering ground. They’re quick-drying and breathable, making them ideal for hot, humid days.

With two zippered pockets and a clean, functional design, they transition easily from the water to whatever comes next.

Patagonia Swiftcurrent Traverse Wading Pants

There are plenty of situations where full chest waders just aren’t necessary, and that’s where the Traverse Wading Pants shine.

Built with a durable, field-tested 4-layer, 5.6-oz 100% recycled fabric, they provide reliable waterproof protection in a lightweight package. The DWR finish helps shed water, and they’re made without intentionally added PFAS.

With an intuitive feature set and a well-thought-out fit, they offer mobility, packability, and protection when you need it—without the bulk of traditional waders.

Wading Boots/Shoes

No matter how you’re fishing, your footwear plays a huge role. You need traction, stability, and comfort—especially if you’re hiking between spots or wading uneven terrain.

When wet wading, we prefer to stay as lightweight as possible. Less weight means more mobility and the ability to cover more water. Here are a few options we trust:

Korkers Chrome Lite Boots

The Chrome Lite Boots are built for anglers who want lightweight agility without sacrificing durability or traction. Designed more like an athletic sneaker, they offer a low-profile, nimble feel that keeps you moving comfortably all day.

Exo-Tec™ construction provides 360° abrasion-resistant protection while staying flexible and light. Hydrophobic materials help the boots dry quickly, reducing water retention and keeping them light on your feet.

The Kling-On Rock™ outsole delivers solid grip on both wet and dry surfaces, with the option to add carbide cleats for extra traction. Internal drainage channels move water out quickly, eliminating excess weight.

Finished with the BOA® M4 Fit System, they offer fast on/off and a precise, dialed-in fit.

Korkers Bantam Lite Boots

The Bantam Lite is a lightweight, hiking-inspired boot built to handle rugged freshwater and saltwater environments.

The OmniTrax® interchangeable sole system lets you customize traction depending on conditions, giving you flexibility wherever you’re fishing.

An EVA midsole and internal ankle wrap provide cushioning and support, while the speed lace system delivers a secure, durable fit. Hydrophobic materials and internal drainage keep the boots light and quick-drying, and reinforced stitching adds long-term durability.

Patagonia Forra Wading Boots

The Forra Wading Boots are engineered for both trail and river use, offering a lightweight feel without sacrificing performance.

A Vibram® Mars sole provides reliable traction and grip, while the high ankle and sturdy toe box add stability and protection.

The adjustable, non-corrosive lacing system ensures a secure fit that holds up in tough conditions, making these a dependable option for anglers on the move.

Korkers All-Axis Shoe

The All-Axis Shoe is a breathable, warm-weather option built for versatility.

Vented mono-mesh side panels keep your feet cool while blocking out sediment, and hydrophobic materials help them dry quickly—reducing the risk of spreading invasive species.

Internal drainage channels remove excess water and weight, while a reinforced toe and underfoot plate provide protection on rocky terrain.

With the OmniTrax® interchangeable sole system, you can customize traction as needed. Whether you’re wet wading, boating, hiking, or just spending time outdoors, it’s a flexible, easy-moving option.

Bonus Product: Korkers Wet Wade Conversion Kit

The Korkers Wet Wade Conversion Kit is one of those simple upgrades that makes a big difference once temperatures rise. Instead of needing a dedicated pair of wet wading boots, this kit lets you instantly convert your existing wading boots into a comfortable warm-weather setup.

At the core is a 10mm EVA insole designed to take up extra space when you’re ditching waders and fishing in socks. It creates a snug, secure fit so your boots still feel dialed even without the added bulk of waders.

The perforated EVA design promotes quick drainage and faster dry times, helping keep your feet lighter and more comfortable throughout the day. Pair it with a good set of wet wading socks, and you’ve got a streamlined system that’s perfect for hot days on the water.
