Guided Trips
Boise River - In Town
Located just minutes from the Idaho Angler, the Boise River offers a premier tailwater fishery where both visitors and locals can enjoy fly fishing for stocked and wild rainbow and brown trout. While the river fishes well year-round, the best conditions are typically from mid-summer (June) through the fall and winter months. Spring runoff (starting around April) often raises water levels, making fly fishing more challenging.

Owyhee River
The Owyhee River is one of the most productive tailwater fisheries in North America. Boasting a population average of approximately 3,000 fish per mile for much of the river. Hatches vary throughout the year offering a wide range of opportunities to catch sizable brown trout and rainbow trout.
Spring fishing begins with the exciting Skwala stonefly hatch, accompanied by consistent mid-day hatches of blue-winged olives and midges. In May and June, anglers can expect to see Pale Morning Duns, Callibaetis, various caddis species, and the first signs of terrestrial activity with ants and beetles. By mid-summer, hopper fishing kicks into gear—adding to the already diverse hatch activity. In some years, the hopper action can be truly phenomenal.

Snake River
Southern Idaho is home to two underrated but exciting fisheries that fly anglers often overlook. The Snake River winds through the region, offering excellent opportunities to target carp, smallmouth bass, and largemouth bass on the fly.
Bass Fishing – Swan Falls Dam
Located just 45 minutes south of Boise, the Snake River below Swan Falls Dam supports healthy populations of smallmouth bass, channel catfish, carp, crappie, and the occasional rainbow trout. Smallmouth bass are the primary target and readily take streamer patterns like woolly buggers and zonkers. Double-digit catches on summer evenings are common, with surprise hookups on rainbows or catfish adding to the fun. Most fishing is done from the bank or by wading the nearshore flats.
Flats Fishing for Carp
Often referred to as the "bonefish of the desert West," carp offer a thrilling challenge for the fly angler. These large, wary fish cruise the flats in schools, feeding in shallow water where they’re accessible to wading anglers. Sight fishing for tailing carp with small streamers and nymphs delivers long runs and plenty of backing action. If you're ready to stop measuring fish in inches and start measuring in pounds, carp fishing on the Snake might be your next obsession.
